Councils gear up for Apprenticeship Levy

6th December 2016

Local Authorities in the region are gearing up for the new Apprenticeship Levy.  The East of England Chief Executives Forum have tasked the East of England LGA with a facilititative role to enable greater collaboration across organisations to ensure we make the most of the funding in the digital accounts.

A draft Regional Apprenticeship Strategy has been developed and shared with Heads of HR, this will be going to the Regional Joint Council at their meeting in December.  A working group of representatives from counties, unitaries and the districts has also been convened in each county area to take the project forward.  There is a lot of good practice across the region and the EAst of England LGA is seeking to build on this and enhance the collaborative opportunities further.

An Apprenticeship event “Blazing the Trail in the East of England” will take place on 31 January to bring local authorities, providers and colleges together at a practical event aimed to help make the most of apprenticeships at all levels. A survey has been circulated to all authorities to gather data on current work to ensure we do not duplicate, and to map existing frameworks and skills shortages, which will feed into the event agenda.
